A little caveat before we start, this article is basically for the male folks. I'll really like to implore women/non males reading this to read with an open and clear mind. I want the men reading to read this as men, not as "real men" but as MEN.
So few days ago, Johnny Depp was asked to resign from his role in the Warner Bros movie - Fantastic Beast. This came after he lost his "wife beater" libel law suit which he filed against The Sun Newspaper, which had in an article tagged him wife beater, the judge ruled in favor of the Sun Newspaper. Part of the evidence used was Amber Heard's account which alleged that Johnny is indeed a wife beater. The Judge refused to take account of counter evidence to Ms Heard's claims - evidence from medical practitionals, police officers, Amber Heard's former assistant and other documentary evidence which in fact counters all Ms Heard's accusations, point by point. According to the judge; "it is inconsequential if Depp was abused by his wife". Anyone who's followed the Depp and Amber story for a while knows that John is in fact the victim here while Amber is the oppressor. Yet, it is John who gets to have his career and reputation going up in smoke for being a victim? It's impressively a man's world, don't you think so?
Just like Depp and Izu(May his soul rest in peace) there will always be situations where men will be falsely accused of emotional crimes and they won't get proper justice. It's just the way the world is. Laws governing such issues are made to protect women (you don't have to agree with me, just ask yourself some very valid questions) how many times have you seen a man face punishments or even lose his life based on fabricated stories against them by women? How many times have you seen a false accuser who's a woman get proper punishment? What even is a proper punishment as far as these emotional crimes (Domestic Violence, Saxual Assualt, Rape and their cousins) are concerned? Most often than not, the punishment is PUBLIC APOLOGY. What this means is that as a man, you can lose everything, have your reputation ruined and in the extreme case you can even lose your life, because of a woman's imaginations or her sheer wickedness and when you are cleared of all wrong doings, she'll apologise to you publicly and that's all you get for your troubles. These laws, in most cases do not even consider men at all. An example is the law on Rape in Nigeria. So it says that for rape to occur there must be penetration. What this means is that only men can be rapists as only they have penises (well normally speaking) which act as the penetrative tool. So it's not that men cannot be raped, but the law implies that men can only be raped by other men. You get the picture clearly now yeah? So these laws aren't on your side - at least for most parts. So, there will always be exceptions, but when the team you support is sure to lose eight in ten games, win one and draw one, then you don't need Peter Drury's poetic lines to tell you that your relegation is all but certain.
Since, as you can see, the odds (laws) aren't in your favour. What then can we do to mitigate our impacts?, Well, I do not claim to know all the answers, but what I believe we all (men) must do is to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves from every potential emotional criminal. If you're to visit Alaba International Market, will you safe guard all your personal effects you carried along? Do same for your reputation. When you want to sleep at night will you close your door? Even when you're sure no one will come to steal from you? I don't need to know your answer. So if you take these steps to prevent potential financial criminals why don't you do the same for emotional criminals? If you can afford it, will you move to a part of town with a lower crime rate? Will you associate with people who are less likely to steal from you? Why don't you do this for your reputation's sake? Why don't you put a premium price on yourself.
Crime will always be everywhere, there will always be criminals, either the criminal engages in physical or emotional crimes is irrelevant. So yes, you'll still fall victim of crimes but what I am suggesting is you try to reduce your chances of falling victim. I'm saying you should reduce the chances of your team relegating and improve their chances of winning the championship. Turn your team's fortunes around from a win one, draw one and lose eight team into a win eight, draw one and lose one team. Will you have a better chance of winning this way? I bet you would. So please, vet all women properly, first learn a lot about yourself, learn the patterns of these potential emotional criminals - this will help you prevent your chances of being with them in the first place. Prevention, afterall they say is better than cure. That said, learn to control your penis (I mean this), don't let your "deep line playmaker" cost your team. Another thing we as men need to do is we have to have our "Me - People". Your me people are the people you can be safe with, these are the people who sit at the table of your life. They are the ones you run to in your days of trouble, they are the ones who stand behind you like the Rock of Gilbratar. I'll be telling you more about these "Me - People" in my next article. So, it's my hope that you'll join me again. Remember, we are trying to make the odds be in our favour.
